Our story
A small house
Dressing women in cloth we would happily wear ourselves.

The name
She who wears the blue of the sky
Neelambari — neela, blue; ambara, sky and garment both. It is also a raga, one sung at the end of the day to send someone gently to sleep.
We took the name because it holds the two things we care about: colour that is calm rather than loud, and craft passed down long enough to have a tune of its own.
How we work
Fewer pieces, chosen properly
We source close to home
Handloom cooperatives in Kerala and Tamil Nadu, weavers we can call by name and visit while the run is still on the loom.
We buy in short runs
Twenty or thirty of a design, not three hundred. It means things sell out. It also means you rarely meet yourself at a wedding.
We stay reachable
The same people who choose the cloth answer the WhatsApp. Ask about drape, fall, blouse stitching, or whether a colour suits you.
What we are after
Clothes that feel like heirlooms before they are old enough to be.Neelambari

Come and see the cloth
How a kasavu border catches the light is not something a photograph can tell you. Visit the boutique, or send a message and we will bring the collection to your phone.
